Dr. Nik Ramlah Mahmood, Managing Director of the Securities Commission, delivered the opening keynote address, sharing her views on the overall condition of the private equity and venture capital industry in light of the current financial environment. Other focal points of her speech included highlighting the investment opportunities in Southeast Asia, particularly in specific countries and industries in the region, and the regulatory situation in Malaysia and the role the Securities Commission plays in promoting private equity and venture capital.
Delivering the luncheon keynote was Nicholas Kwan, the Asia Regional Head of Research from Standard Chartered Bank. Mr. Kwan's address centered on the current global financial markets crisis and how it is affecting Asia. Covering the roots of the current crisis, including the US subprime mortgage crisis, debt market and liquidity crunch, Mr. Kwan also touched on the global, US and Asian economies and the possible outcomes that could result.
